Expanding Into Morocco

You have a product that works elsewhere. What you need here is someone who knows why it might not — and who is already on the ground in Casablanca and Rabat.

Morocco is one of the more attractive markets in North Africa: a young, heavily connected population, media costs well below European levels, and far less advertiser competition than a saturated Western feed. The opportunity is real.

What catches brands out is that the market does not behave the way the numbers suggest. Campaigns translated from a European original underperform badly here — not because the creative is weak, but because it is speaking the wrong language, in the wrong register, and ending in the wrong place. ANIMA is an independent agency in Casablanca and Rabat that launches international brands into Morocco, with everything produced in-house and reporting written in English.

Five things that are different here

Darija is not French

Most Moroccans speak Darija, a spoken dialect that is nobody's written school language. Ads in formal Arabic read as institutional; ads in French read as premium but distant. Choosing the register is a targeting decision, not a translation task.

The sale happens on WhatsApp

Buyers expect to ask a question before they commit. A funnel that ends at a web form loses the ones who wanted a conversation — which, for most categories here, is the majority of them.

Cash on delivery is normal

Checkout built for card-first European markets converts poorly without adaptation. Worth knowing before you buy traffic, not after the first month's report.

Meta and TikTok dominate

The platform mix skews harder to social than in most European markets. Search budgets that work in France are frequently misallocated here.

Local proof outranks global brand

Recognition abroad transfers weakly. A Moroccan customer's review, a local address, a real phone number answered in Darija — these do more for conversion than international reputation.

How a launch runs

Four stages, thirty days — the same Focus® method we run for every client, in this order, with no ambiguous middle and no scope drift.

  • 01 · Brief — a working session on positioning, personas, competitors and the language register to lead with. You leave with a validated plan, not an open question.
  • 02 · Production — shooting, multi-platform editing and a localised landing page, in parallel. All in-house, so nothing slips waiting on a subcontractor.
  • 03 · Launch — Meta campaigns live, content published, tracking installed, WhatsApp wired into the CRM. First leads arrive.
  • 04 · Optimisation — monthly reporting in English. Winning angles scaled, weak creative cut, budget moved to whatever is converting.
💡 Your ad account stays yours. Campaigns run on your own Meta or TikTok account, billed to your own payment method, wherever your company is registered — we take no commission on media spend, and you keep the pixel and audiences permanently.

Who we do this for

Brands opening a Moroccan arm, e-commerce businesses shipping into the country, franchises and education groups expanding south, and English-speaking businesses already operating here that have been running their marketing from abroad and are not seeing it work.

We come to it with more than ten years spent running advertising and content for major brands and multinationals across retail, beauty and real estate — before founding ANIMA. That is where the difference between a campaign that presents well in a meeting and a campaign that actually brings customers gets learned.

Frequently asked questions

Can you run campaigns for us if we have no legal entity in Morocco?

Yes. Campaigns run on your own Meta or TikTok ad account, billed to your own payment method, wherever your company is registered. We are added as a partner with the access we need and nothing more, and you keep the account, pixel and audiences permanently. Questions of local incorporation, tax and import are for your lawyer or accountant — not for us.

What language should our campaigns be in?

It depends on the audience, and this is the most common and most expensive mistake we see. Darija is what most people actually speak and respond to. French signals a premium or professional register and works for B2B, education and higher-end retail. Modern Standard Arabic reads as formal. Straight English rarely performs outside tourism and expat-facing businesses. We test at least two registers before scaling budget.

Why does WhatsApp matter so much here?

Because a large share of buying conversations happen there rather than on a website. We build campaigns that open a WhatsApp conversation and connect it to a CRM, so nothing is lost between the ad and the sale.

How long does a launch take?

A localised landing page and first campaign go live within one to two weeks. Paid campaigns produce usable data within days and a full report at thirty days. SEO and brand awareness build over months, so we sequence paid acquisition first.

Do you work with online-only brands with no Moroccan address?

Yes. Note that cash on delivery is still widely expected in Moroccan e-commerce, so card-first checkout flows usually need adaptation. We flag that before you spend on traffic.
